Kitchen islands can be social, smart and fun thanks to an endless array of seating options ranging from comfortable to practical.
While the size of your space will ultimately determine if a kitchen island with seating will work, even the coziest kitchen might be able to accommodate an island with enough room for a small pair of bar stools pulled up to a breakfast bar or counter-height chairs on either side.
After you´ve removed the hardware, wipe and clean the cabinets to remove any grease, dust or other grime. Once you`ve finished wiping down the cabinets, sand them lightly to create a slightly roughened surface for your paint to stick to. You`ll then want to remove all the drawers and drawer fronts from the island. Use masking paper to cover the interior, floor and countertop. Next you'll want to caulk any seams between the panels and doorframes; fill any holes with wood filler. Let the wood filler dry, then sand it until it is flush with the cabinet´s surface. Wipe the cabinetry clean once again to remove any traces of dust.
Curved, decorative accents also work well with French kitchen islands. Consider adding wood accents, like grape vines, to cabinets or French-inspired materials to counter-style seating.
