Kitchen islands can be social, smart and fun thanks to an endless array of seating options ranging from comfortable to practical.
If you want to keep the room fairly neutral, choose a subtle shade for your island such as cream, beige, greige or a subtle pastel shade. If you′re willing to be more adventurous, a bold shade can really shine on a kitchen island. Since the island is a focal point in the room, a striking shade can ground the space and make the room feel fun and inviting. Some colors that would work well with a kitchen island include yellow, turquoise, navy blue, orange and red. Lighter colors such as blue, gray and mint can really shine too. Whichever color you choose, make sure it‵s one you really love and won′t grow tired of over time.
Other freestanding kitchen island options include stock cabinetry or buffet style designs. These islands typically stand on legs similar to a dresser and have minimal storage space, such as a set of drawers and open shelf storage for books or large appliances.
In order to determine how many stools will fit at your kitchen island, home experts recommend you allow 28 to 30 inches for each seating space, which means you can divide the length of your island´s counter by 30 to to figure out how many stools will comfortably fit. (For example, if your island has a 90-inch countertop, you can comfortably fit 3 stools along one side.) You might be tempted to add an extra seat, but keep in mind that you don´t want to pack in too many stools and block walkways or make your kitchen feel cramped.
